The U.S. Commerce Department has announced tariffs on tin-plated steel imports from Canada, Germany, and China. These countries supply 30% of tin-plated steel to the U.S. market. China’s largest producer, Baoshan Iron and Steel, will face the highest preliminary anti-dumping duties of 122.5%. German producers, including Thyssenkrupp, will face duties of 7.02%, while Canadian producers, including ArcelorMittal, will face duties of 5.29%. The increased prices of canned food may be a short-term consequence, but this decision is expected to benefit the domestic U.S. industry unless the impacted countries can convince the U.S. to reverse this ruling.
